About the Trek: Bali Pass is a challenging mountain pass just shy of 5000 m, connecting the Har Ki Dun and Ruinsara Valleys to Yamunotri. The trek takes you through the heritage villages of Har Ki Dun valley, including Osla, Gangaad, and Taluka, and ascends into the scenic Govind National Park. Along the way, you’ll encounter the stunning Ruinsara Lake and several waterfalls. The trek spans 66 kms from Taluka to Janki Chatti, with an altitude surpassing 16,000 feet, making it physically demanding. It features long days of hiking, steep ascents, and descents. Due to the challenging terrain, it’s strongly recommended to trek with a local guide, especially for solo trekkers, as the route can be difficult to navigate and steep sections may lead to accidents. Suggested Itinerary  
Day 1 Drive from Dehradun to Sankri (Drive 190 km – 8 / 9 hrs)
  • Departure from Prince Chowk, near Dehradun railway station at 7.00 am. Driving alongside the Tons River, and passing villages in Uttarakhand like Damta, Purola, Mori, and Netwar, we will reach the base camp Sankri. We will be accommodated in hotels or homestays here.

Day 2  Sankri to Seema via Taluka (Drive 10 km / 300 mins – Trek 14 kms 5 / 6 hrs)
  • After a hearty breakfast, we will be transported to Taluka by car. The motorable road in Govind Pashu National Park ends here. The trek commences on a stony path alongside the gushing river Supin. Seema is a tiny settlement opposite Osla on the other side of the river. We set camp here or stay in a hut with a local family in the village.

Day 3 Seema to Roiltia or Waterfall camp (Trek 13 km / 6 hrs)
  • Leaving the final human settlements behind, we follow the true left of the Supin River, ascending through a forest of deodar trees. This leads us to the picturesque meadow of Devsu Thatch, a 1-kilometer stretch of lush greenery, framed by the majestic Swargarohini peaks. We end the day’s trek by camping near a stream, just below the beautiful waterfall known locally as Roiltigad or Roiltia.

Day 4 Waterfall to Ruinsara Lake (Trek 4 km / 2 hrs)
  • Today’s journey is going to take in under 2 hours even at a slow pace. We then reach one of the highlights of the trek — Ruinsara Tal. We will be camping overnight near the lake.

Day 5 Ruinsara Lake – rest and explore or Trek to Thanga (Trek 3 km / 1.5 hrs)
  • Lying at an elevation of about 3500 m, Ruinsara Lake is a good place to acclimatize ourselves before reaching Bali Pass base camp the next day.

Day 6 Ruinsara Lake/Thanga to Bali Pass Basecamp (Trek 8 km / 7 hrs)
  • We start the day early to reach our destination before the afternoon. We camp below Bali Pass along a glacial moraine. This is one of the best locations for a camp, with the valley below and the Pass behind us. The temperatures at night tend to go to sub-zero degrees.

Day 7 Bali Pass Basecamp to Lower Dhamni via Bali pass (Trek 12 km/ 8 hrs)
  • We begin the Bali Pass crossing early, aiming to reach the summit by 8 a.m. The climb takes about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Upon reaching the top, we are rewarded with stunning views of the Yamunotri Valley. After taking in the scenery, we carefully descend along a connecting ridge to the campsite at Upper Dhamni.

Day 8 Lower Dhamni to Yamunotri to Janki Chatti (Trek 12 km/ 6 hrs)
  • The trek from Lower Dhamni to Yamunotri and Janki Chatti offers a scenic journey through forests and villages. Reaching Yamunotri, known for its temple and hot springs, we continue to Janki Chatti, where serene paths and Himalayan views lead to a peaceful mountain village. A short yet beautiful blend of nature and spirituality. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 9 Janki Chatti to Dehradun:
  • Today is more about reflection than physical effort, as it marks the final day of this incredible journey. Cherish the beautiful memories you’ve made along the way, and bid farewell to the trails with a sense of gratitude and fondness. We’ll arrive back in Dehradun by evening.
