WHAT IS IAYP

The Duke of Edinburgh Award, also known as The International Award for Young People (IAYP), is a globally recognized youth empowerment program that is both adaptable and impactful. Launched in the United Kingdom in 1956, its purpose is to encourage young people to engage in a well-rounded program of voluntary self-development activities.

The Award is structured around four core sections: Service, Adventurous Journey, Skills, and Physical Recreation (with a Residential Project requirement for the Gold Award). It offers three levels – Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Open to all individuals, including those with different abilities, the Award allows participants to choose activities that suit their environment, personal interests, and talents, provided they demonstrate perseverance and initiative.

Adventure Mantra also organizes essential preliminary training and practice journeys for the Adventurous Journey component. These sessions can be conducted either within schools or outdoors, depending on the specific requirements and suitability for the participants. The aim is to ensure that individuals are well-prepared, and equipped with the necessary skills and confidence to successfully undertake their adventurous journey.

More than 30,000 participants are currently undertaking the Program in India. IAYP encourages youngsters to be involved in a balanced program of voluntary activities that drives them towards the path of self-discovery, perseverance and responsibility towards themselves and their community. Those who participate in the Award are expected to follow its requirements in a non-competitive manner with a determination to succeed, either individually or as part of a team. The Award therefore is challenging, and can be undertaken at your own pace.

New activities allow students pursue their goals and interests outside of their standard academic curriculum. They not just gain some new skills but also develop their overall personalities. Students who are involved in such a program are often seen to develop better time management skills.
