Located along the border of India and Nepal, the Mahakali River trip is an exciting river journey along scenic terraced-cultivation and quaint old Kumaoni villages. Coupled with the sparkling water and wonderful sandy beaches, this trip promises you a wilderness journey of a lifetime. The Mahakali river is also known as a Sharda river which flows down from the Nepal border through Kumaon hills and as the Kali and Gori Rivers meet at Jauljibi, with increased water volume, it offers great river rafting adventure to professionals, for a length of 117 km, from Jauljibi to Tanakpur. Below Tanakpur, Lower down among the frosted slopes, the river becomes calmer offering the amateur a sporting challenge.

Day 1: Reach campsite at Mukteshwar

Report at Pune Airport at 1000 hrs. Take a flight to Delhi. Reach Delhi Airport by 1430 hrs. And get transferred to Old Delhi junction to board (15035) UTR SAMPRK K Exp.at 1600 hrs. Reach Kathgodam by 2240 hrs. Get transferred to Campsite at Mukteshwar by jeeps.

Day 2: Explore Namik Valley

Kathgodam to Ramganga, this eight hours drive takes you closer to the Himalayas in the Namik Valley, where we have set up a very beautiful riverside camp beside the Ramganga River which flows through the Namik Valley and is also known as one of the cleanest rivers in the north, the water is so clear that you can see the 12 ft deep floor even in the moonlight. And is also famous for the Himalayan snow trout. An ideal beach for camping.

Day 3: Drive from Ramganga to Jauljibi

Ramganga to Jauljibi. A short drive from Ramganga (2 ½ hours) brings us to the confluence of two rivers: Gori Ganga, and Kali River at Jauljibi. The expedition begins from here. After a comprehensive river safety briefing, as well as basic rafting instructions, you are ready to experience the thrill of grade 3 rapids. The sights and sounds of the many villages we cross add to the special experience of being on the river. We pitch camp late afternoon, followed by dinner around the campfire. Overnight at camp Chaukidari Jhulaghat

Day 4: Move from Chaukidari Camp to Waterfall Camp

Chaukidari Camp to Waterfall Camp. Our second day on the Kali begins with a grade 2 rapid. Enjoy the white water as we raft through the ‘Squeeze’ at Jhulaghat. The river banks spot stalactite and stalagmite formations, reminding us of what we learnt in school. In the afternoon, we pitch camp by a waterfall and we can either choose to hike up to it or laze around the campfire, eat dinner and hit the sleeping bag. Camp overnight.

Day 5: Trek to Nidal Camp

Waterfall Camp to Nidal Camp. Get ready for some more action on grade 2-3 rapids to reach Pancheshwar, the confluence of Kali and Saryu Rivers. Don’t forget your poles, this is a great spot for fishing. Camp overnight

Day 6: Trek to Rupali Gad Camp

Nidal Camp to Rupali Gad Camp. Expect loads of thrills today as we move from Pancheshwar towards Rupali Gad and encounter grade 3 rapids as the river picks up the volume. The untouched beauty is breathtaking and has us all wishing for the day not to end. Camp overnight.

Day 7: Trek to Pari Gaon Camp

Rupali Gad Camp to Pari Gaon Camp. The river’s run from Rupali Gad to Pari Gaon takes us through the Kali’s biggest rapid, the ‘Chuka’, a grade 4+ rapid. As the rapid has several channels we will scout around before running it. We will then enjoy a few more grade 3 rapids before we reach camp across the river from Pari Gaon. There will be plenty to discuss and remember about the day when we sit around the campfire and savour a hot, delicious meal. Camp overnight.

Day 8: Trek to Pari Gaon to Boom to Kathgodam

Pari Gaon to Boom to Kathgodam. On the last day on the river, we start from Pari Gaon to reach the take-out at Boom. There is a distinct shift in the surrounding vegetation as we enter the Terai region. You may find wild elephants sharing the river with you! After lunch load up and drive to Mukteshwar Board the night train out of Kathgodam to Delhi.

Day 9: Departure

Arrive New Delhi. Get transferred to Delhi airport to board the respective flight to Pune
